IV Sedation

Making Treatments Hassle-Free & Comfortable

It’s estimated that about 75 percent of adults in the U.S. experience some level of dental anxiety. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. At Dallas Esthetics, we work hard to make every visit as stress-free and comfortable as possible. For patients who need additional relaxation or are undergoing longer procedures, we offer IV sedation administered by a licensed outside dental anesthesiology team. This option is ideal for those with dental phobia, difficulty sitting through lengthy treatments, or other factors that make traditional visits challenging.

Please note: IV sedation services are billed separately by the anesthesiology provider.

What is Dental IV Sedation?

We may recommend IV sedation for oral surgeries, complex or lengthy procedures, or when fear or anxiety makes it difficult to receive care. IV sedation helps calm the mind and body, relieving stress associated with the dental environment, including sounds, smells, and unfamiliar instruments.

It’s also a valuable option for patients who have a strong gag reflex, mobility or neuromuscular disorders, or who simply prefer a deeper level of relaxation. While sedation is managed by our outside anesthesia partners, our clinical team works closely alongside them to ensure your appointment is efficient, safe, and comfortable.

Before treatment, the anesthesiology provider will determine the appropriate level of sedation based on your medical history, current medications, and anxiety level. The sedative is administered intravenously, allowing precise control throughout your procedure.

Most patients feel deeply relaxed, drowsy, or may lightly sleep during care. Unlike general anesthesia, you remain conscious and able to respond to questions, yet unaware of the sights, sounds, and sensations of treatment.

Prior to your appointment, you’ll receive preparation instructions, which may include:

  • Avoid eating or drinking for at least eight hours before treatment
  • Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise
  • Get a full night’s rest

During your visit, a board-certified anesthesiology team will monitor your breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure from start to finish, helping ensure a safe and smooth experience.
